Slack

Reviewers don’t have to keep checking VeriProof for new work. When a review is assigned to someone, the VeriProof app sends them a direct message in Slack. They can decide right from that message.

The message updates in place as the review moves along: when it’s due soon, goes overdue, is reassigned, is canceled, expires, gets a response, or is decided. Nobody has to wonder whether an old message is still current.

What a Slack message shows

  • The application name
  • Why the review is needed, in plain language
  • The person’s role in the review
  • When it’s due, shown in their own time zone
  • The priority, when one is set
  • A case reference for support

While decisions in Slack are on, the message also shows the action the application proposes and the review’s details up to your data limit, with where they came from. When some details or fields are above the limit, the message says they’re shown only in VeriProof. Prompts, model responses, tool data, review notes, and other people’s details never appear in Slack.

Decide in Slack

A reviewer can decide from their own Slack message:

  • Approve. Slack asks them to confirm first, and approving a high or urgent priority review asks them to tick a box confirming they checked the details.
  • Reject, with a reason.
  • Respond opens a form with the fields the review asks for, such as an amount, a choice, a date, or a short answer. VeriProof checks the answers with the same rules as the review page and points at any field to fix before anything is recorded.
  • Ask the application opens a form for a question. The review stays open until the application answers.

Anything Slack can’t collect faithfully, such as a list of more than 100 choices or a required field above your data limit, opens in VeriProof with Review in VeriProof. Changes to the action’s data are always made in VeriProof.

Every decision made in Slack is recorded in VeriProof, which notes that it was made in Slack. It reaches the application exactly the way a decision made in VeriProof does, and it shows up in the review history.

Decisions happen in the reviewer’s own direct message. In a group review channel, a reviewer claims the review from the post, and the review then arrives in their direct message.

If a reviewer connected their Slack account more than 90 days ago, Slack asks them to reconnect it before their decision counts. It takes one sign-in.

Set the data limit

Most sensitive data Slack may show and collect is Public and internal by default. Choose Public only to keep internal details in VeriProof too.

Confidential and sensitive details always stay in VeriProof. A review whose required fields are above this limit opens in VeriProof.

Turn decisions in Slack off

Let reviewers decide in Slack is on by default. Turn it off if you want every decision made in VeriProof. Messages then link to the review, buttons on messages sent earlier stop recording anything, and group review posts offer Claim in VeriProof instead of a claim in the channel.

Microsoft Teams has its own setting, Let reviewers decide in Teams, in Microsoft Teams settings.

The Home tab

Each connected reviewer can open the VeriProof app’s Home tab in Slack to see their open reviews. Overdue and urgent reviews come first. Each one shows a short case reference and a Review in VeriProof button, and View all in VeriProof opens the full list. The tab also links to help and to VeriProof support. Guests and people from other organizations see only a note that the app is for full members.

Connect Slack

You need permission to manage integrations in VeriProof. A Slack administrator also needs to approve the app, unless your workspace lets members add apps.

  1. Open Settings → Slack.
  2. Select Add to Slack.
  3. In Slack, choose the workspace and select Allow. On Enterprise Grid, an org administrator can install the app for the whole organization.
  4. When you return to VeriProof, check that the status shows Connected.

One Slack workspace, or one Enterprise Grid organization, can connect to only one VeriProof organization.

Set up Slack walks through the whole setup, including what the app asks Slack for.

How reviewers connect

Each reviewer connects their Slack account once.

  • They open the VeriProof app in Slack and go to its Home tab. It shows a Connect in VeriProof link. They sign in to VeriProof and confirm.
  • Or, in VeriProof, they select Send me a link in Slack. VeriProof finds the Slack account with their email address and sends the link there. The email only finds the account; the person still confirms from Slack.

The link works once and expires after 15 minutes. Until a reviewer is connected, VeriProof doesn’t send them review messages. Their work is always in Inbox and email.

Guests and people from other organizations, including Slack Connect partners, can’t connect or receive review messages.

Group reviews in a private channel

When an application’s reviews go to a group, you can post them in one private Slack channel instead of messaging everyone in the group. While decisions in Slack are on, a reviewer selects Claim review on the post. The post then says who claimed it, and the review arrives in their direct message, where they decide. You choose the channel in the application’s reviewer routing, not on this page. You need your own Slack account connected, and you can choose only a private channel that you and the app are both in. When you save it, VeriProof posts a short introduction there. Post group reviews in a private channel covers the setup.

If a chosen channel stops qualifying, for example because a guest joins, this page shows A group review channel stopped working with what to fix. Those group reviews go to reviewers as direct messages until it’s fixed.

When someone pastes a VeriProof review link in Slack, the preview shows the application, status, reason, and due time only when both of these are true:

  • It’s pasted in a direct message or a private channel that isn’t shared outside your organization.
  • The person who pasted it is working that review.

Everywhere else, the preview only says it’s a VeriProof review.

Approve new Slack permissions

When a VeriProof update needs more from Slack, this page shows Approve new Slack permissions. Someone who manages integrations selects Reconnect Slack and approves the change in Slack. Messages keep arriving in the meantime; the features that need the new permissions start once it’s approved.

Check delivery

The Delivery panel shows how many people are connected, when the last message was delivered, the last problem, and any messages VeriProof stopped trying to send.

Select Send test message to me to send yourself a sample message. You need to have connected your own Slack account first.

When Slack asks VeriProof to slow down, VeriProof waits as long as Slack asks and tries again. You don’t need to do anything.

Pause or disconnect

  • Turn off Send review notifications in Slack to pause messages. Nothing else changes.
  • Select Disconnect Slack to remove the app from your workspace and the connection from VeriProof. VeriProof deletes the reviewer connections, its message records, the group review channels you chose, and the workspace details it kept. Messages already in Slack stay there.
  • If Slack removes the app or its access, VeriProof deletes the same data and the status shows Reconnect needed. Select Add to Slack again to reconnect. Reviewers connect again, and group review channels are chosen again.
