Operating value
Operating value on Business Owner Home estimates the annual value of recurring work supported by VeriProof. Open the total to see which activities contribute and how their inputs affect the estimate. No separate financial worksheet is required.
The estimate is not realized savings. Returned capacity represents time that could be available for other work; it does not establish a reduction in payroll.
Understand the scope
The total covers only applications you can access, while the date controls determine which completed work contributes. For example, Across 6 applications describes a portfolio total. Each application named in the breakdown is one contributor, not the scope of the entire panel.
When you select Adjust application estimate, changes apply only to the named application and activity. Other applications keep their existing inputs.
Read the value card
- Estimated annual operating value converts the estimated effort difference into dollars.
- Hours of estimated capacity returned shows annual capacity, rounded to whole hours. Calculations retain their precision.
- Activities included shows which types of work contribute to the total.
- Estimates confirmed counts application-level activity estimates with customer-confirmed effort and hourly cost.
You can confirm one estimate at a time. The count increases as you save, even if other applications still use starting assumptions.
The supporting cards offer different ways to examine the result:
- Recorded AI spend shows reported cost and its coverage, not the cost of the whole program.
- Value confidence shows how many included estimates use confirmed inputs and suggests one estimate to review.
- Top value driver opens the activity contributing the most estimated value.
A card appears only when its inputs are available.
Review included work
| Activity | What contributes |
|---|---|
| Evidence and control engineering | Recurring annual work for each included application. Session volume does not multiply this value. |
| Audit and evidence response | Completed evidence packages recorded by the package builder. A package shared across applications is counted once. |
| Investigations and appeals | Excluded until a supported source provides completed investigation and appeal records. |
| Human-review coordination | Completed human-review cases with a recorded human approval or rejection. Synthetic setup cases and system decisions are excluded. |
Evidence packages are excluded if they span applications outside your scope. Older exports also remain outside the estimate when no completion event was recorded.
For completed work, VeriProof projects the selected period’s count over a year. Engineering is different: it uses one recurring annual unit per application. The projected count describes a modeled year, not work that has already occurred.
Check the assumptions
Each estimate uses:
Annual workload × (current effort − expected effort) × loaded hourly cost
If expected effort exceeds current effort, returned capacity is zero. The calculation does not produce a negative savings claim. Starting effort comes from the public calculator’s versioned inputs. The hourly cost follows this order:
- A confirmed rate for this application and activity.
- The application’s labor-cost override.
- The tenant’s hourly labor cost.
- The published rate, when no configured rate is available for the selected period.
The activity breakdown identifies the rate source. A configured hourly rate alone does not confirm the effort estimate.
The labels explain how much of the estimate you have confirmed:
- Starting assumptions: published effort remains in use.
- Mixed assumptions: some application estimates are confirmed and others still use starting inputs.
- Customer-confirmed basis: included effort and cost are confirmed, with enough recorded work where a workload projection is needed.
- Projected activity: confirmed inputs are available, but the observation period or completed-work count is still small.
- No completed work: the source was read, but no eligible completed work was found.
- Not available: a required source is unavailable. That activity is excluded, not counted as zero savings.
Confirming assumptions does not make an estimate a measured financial saving.
Adjust one estimate
- Open Operating value, then select Confirm effort or open an activity and select Adjust estimate.
- Confirm the application and activity at the top of the editor.
- Enter current effort, expected effort with VeriProof, and loaded hourly cost. Include pay, benefits, and employment overhead in that cost.
- Select Confirm estimate. Home refreshes after the values are saved.
Saved changes take effect immediately; earlier periods retain the assumptions effective at their end date. If another authorized user changes the assumptions while you edit, confirmation is disabled to protect that update. Select Reload current values and review the latest inputs before editing again.
These fields are also available under an application’s Status → Review labor assumptions → Operating value assumptions. The session-review model below them is separate. Do not add its estimate to operating value. Value assumptions explains the tenant settings and application overrides.
Include investment when needed
Expand Include program investment when you want to compare estimated value with the application’s annual costs. Include licensing, implementation, compute, and recurring support. Count each cost once, allocating shared expenses across applications rather than repeating the total for each one.
Portfolio comparisons appear only after every included application has a recorded investment. The calculations then show:
- First-year net value: operating value minus investment.
- ROI: net value divided by investment, expressed as a percentage.
- Payback: investment divided by modeled monthly operating value, expressed in months.
Zero investment does not produce an ROI or payback figure. Payback also requires positive operating value.
Compare periods
What changed compares equal-length periods with matching applications, activity coverage, and comparable confirmed inputs. When observations are too short or incomplete, the panel explains why a comparison is unavailable rather than showing a zero change.
AI spend changes require reported costs for every included application in both periods. Check the coverage shown in the spend panel: a missing cost is not the same as a recorded zero.
All monetary values are in USD. Operating value does not include assumed fines avoided, speculative revenue, or unverified business outcomes.
